Dubuque Co. Officials Tackling Noise Issues Around Southwest Arterial

Officials with the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors this week say they plan to take steps to limit an increase in loud noises around the Southwest Arterial.

County engineer Anthony Bardgett said most of the noise complaints have come from semi trucks “jake-braking.” His solution? Putting up signs banning the practice.

Enforcement, however, would be a different problem. While the city of Dubuque has a noise ordinance on the books as well as jurisdiction over the north and south ends of the arterial, the county itself does not have a noise ordinance. If the signs don’t help, the Board of Supervisors said they would consider ‘taking other measures.’
